This 6-meter tall sculpture, fully 3D printed in stainless steel using WAAM, embodies both mathematical precision and emotional expression, with polished gold-plated tips that enhance its luminous presence.

THE STORY BEHIND

The Tresse Tower is a 6-meter-tall stainless steel sculpture by Ricardo Regazzoni, realized in collaboration with MX3D. The project began in 2020, when the artist sought a production method beyond traditional techniques like bronze casting or cut metal, which did not align with his vision. Instead, he embraced MX3D’s innovative robotic 3D printing technology to bring his intricate, mathematically complex yet deeply emotional design to life.

Fully 3D printed in stainless steel, the sculpture’s tips were polished and gold-plated in post-production, creating a striking contrast between raw material and refined finish.

MX3D’s Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM) technique enabled unprecedented flexibility in form and texture, significant material reduction, and greater efficiency compared to conventional manufacturing or powder-based additive processes. By managing the complete workflow—from CAD to final print—MX3D’s MetalXL platform made it possible to transform the artist’s vision directly into reality.

“To my surprise, the 3D printing had a texture that gave a human quality to the piece, enhancing its shine and strength. It is not an old language, it is a contemporary one for art.”
